Fast Funk — Studio Edition
Fast Funk has a serious case of demo-itis.
Sometimes you make a demo and then try to record it properly — better performances, better sound, better musicians — and somehow the track gets worse. The original has something you can’t quite recreate.
That’s what happened here.
The original bass was monstrously out of control. I’ve re-recorded it and made it technically better, but it never worked in the track in quite the same way.
Even the guitar solo was basically thrown down. It shouldn’t necessarily work. It just does.
So Fast Funk remains unfinished. It needs rebuilding, re-recording and remixing — but simply replacing rough performances with technically better ones isn’t enough. Whatever made this demo work has to survive.
That’s now part of the project.
I want to document the process of rebuilding Fast Funk: re-recording the parts, experimenting with the arrangement and mix, and trying to work out exactly what the original demo had that the supposedly “better” versions lost.
I’ll video that process as it happens and add it to the Studio Log — including the attempts that don’t work.
The finished version will arrive when it’s genuinely better than this one, not merely better recorded.
Studio Log
Current edition: The original demo — the version that everything else now has to beat.
Studio Edition is a window into the process — the good, the bad and the ugly.
