Syndicated — Studio Edition
One session. Six tracks. Syndicated grew out of a jam that lasted roughly an hour and a half. What you hear is essentially the music that emerged that day — not a reconstruction recorded weeks later.
How it started
There was no elaborate plan. I started playing and followed the ideas as they arrived. I don’t think I even knew what key I was in when I recorded the bass.
Six tracks, one session
The arrangement is remarkably simple: two rhythm guitars, one lead guitar, bass and one stereo drum track. That’s the whole mix. The performances are largely the original takes, and the guitar solo was recorded in one or two attempts. About six months later, I went back and corrected two mistakes in that solo.
The same-day mix
I mixed Syndicated on the same day as the jam and haven’t changed much since. It’s not necessarily the finest mix I’ll ever make, but the balance still works for me. Sometimes a track comes together without needing endless revisions.
Studio Log
Current edition: The original session and same-day mix, with two later corrections to the guitar solo. The spontaneous performances are the point of this recording.
